The Carolina Foothills: Warrior Drive 5's home
a perfect place to spend a day - or a lifetime
The Warrior Drive 5 takes place near the town of Tryon, known as the Friendliest Town in the South. Such hospitality is just one of the enticing aspects of life in the Carolina Foothills.
Race activity will center around Harmon Field, a wonderful place to bring family and friends. Fans can watch their favorite runners for much of the final 1.25 miles. Parking is convenient to both the Start and Finish Lines. For those wishing to make a day of it, Harmon Field has a large shaded play area for children, numerous picnic areas and the Pacolet River for frolicking.
But there's much more to the Carolina Foothills. Start with convenience - the area is less than 30 minutes from Spartanburg and Hendersonville and 45 minutes from Greenville and Asheville. The lovely and historic towns of Tryon, Saluda, Landrum and Columbus are nearby.
The Warrior Drive 5 course lies in the heart of the Thermal Belt, a weather phenomenon that adds to the already high quality of life in Tryon and the rest of the Carolina Foothills.
Quoting from the U.S. Weather Bureau Report: "Because of the peculiar topographical features at Tryon which affect the flow of air, there are some remarkable variations in the extent and the amount of inversions during the course of a year. Normally, the middle of the thermal belt lies at an elevation of only 400 feet above the valley floor. On no other slope is the center of the thermal belt found so close to the valley floor."
